When looking into the marketing strategy for your business or blog, one of the buzzwords you will not stop hearing is SEO. Search engine optimization is the practice of making sure your content and your website is optimized for search engines. It means that you should show up higher on the search results page than other similar brands. Due to the aspects of SEO, many people are often scared off and don’t want to try it themselves. However, it is a simple process and today we are going to show you just how easy it really is.
Keywords
The main thing you can look for when trying your hand as SEO is keywords. A keyword is any word which someone would search on google or a similar search engine. For example, if someone was looking for a pizza recipe, they might search ‘pizza’. In this instance, pizza is the keyword. To find a keyword which suits your brand you need to think like a customer. If you were a customer searching for your product, what would you type in? Once you have found a few keywords to use, you need to find where to put them in your content and in your website. Inputting keywords into your content will make it more likely for you to come up with a search result for that keyword. Once you have inputted keywords you can monitor their effectiveness with SEO Stats and Analysis.
Use your content
As a blog, this should be pretty simple for you to do and you will likely be able to add keywords in several different places right away. When you add tags to a blog post, these are acting as keywords. Make sure to always add plenty of relevant tags to articles to increase the likelihood of people finding it. Think about bringing keywords into the text of your blog post too for extra effect, and always caption your images when you upload them with a useful keyword.
Robot-friendly
Even though we often hear only bad things about bots and site crawlers, as a blog or website we need to cater to them as much as we do our readers. When you are trying to make your website more palatable and discoverable to users, you must also make them more discoverable to search engine bots. If a search engine can’t find your blog first, you won’t be ranked as highly. There are several ways you can make your website easier to access by bots:
- Simple navigation from homepage to content
- Short URLs
- Overlay text on images
- Make sure your site is being crawled
Get links, not likes
When dealing with SEO, links are way more important than the likes you get on your post. You want to aim for other blogs and websites to link back to your website. This creates an extra audience for you on the web, and will also look better for bots because they will see that you have linked to other websites.
